Coordinator @ Citizens for Local Power, Kingston, NY, New York State’s First Capital
Citizens for Local Power participates in rate cases, advocating for ratepayers to avoid energy rate increases, hosts roundtable discussions for community organizations, has a storefront office on Broadway, and sends a newsletter to thousands of subscribers. It is also a member of the NY Energy Democracy Alliance.
Kingston, NY has an incredible diversity and people-based community power. Working with Citizens for Local Power enabled me to work with the New York Energy Democracy Alliance, publish about Community Solar, and support the successful application for a private foundation grant to fund a green jobs program.
That program, Empower Kingston, is now in effect. The program connects marginalized youth with apprenticeships at building contractors, all of whom attend classes in solar and renewable energy technologies at the local state university, SUNY Ulster.
Citizens for Local Power is co-located with New Yorkers for Clean Power, a nonprofit that advocates for zero-emission systems like electric vehicles and heat pumps (air-source and ground-source).
